Wingspan Oceania Expansion: New Birds & Mechanics

Quick Answer

Add the Wingspan Oceania Expansion to your base game to enjoy stunning new birds, a new food type, and player mats that open up fresh strategies. It's a must-have for Wingspan fans.

How to Add the Oceania Expansion to Your Game

1. Check Compatibility: Ensure you own the core Wingspan game, as the Oceania Expansion requires it to play. Check the box to confirm it's the correct version. A common mistake is buying the expansion without the base game; verify before purchase.
2. Shuffle the Bird Cards: Take the new Oceania bird cards and shuffle them into the base game's bird deck. You can include other expansions if you like, but it's not necessary. Make sure to mix thoroughly to distribute the new birds evenly.
3. Introduce the New Food Type: Add the new food tokens to the available food supply. The new food type will change your resource management, so consider how it affects your early-game strategy. A common mistake is ignoring the new food; it can unlock powerful bird abilities.
4. Replace Player Mats: Swap the base game's player mats with the new ones included in the expansion. These mats offer different bonuses and encourage varied strategies. Don't stick to your old habits; experiment with the new mats to find your preferred style.
5. Adjust Your Strategy: With new birds and a new food type, re-evaluate your usual tactics. Focus on birds that utilize the new food efficiently, and be flexible in your planning. A common mistake is playing too rigidly; adapt to the new possibilities.
