Apiary: Expanding the Hive adds to the variety of the core game with components all designed to fit inside the original insert and a comprehensive appendix that covers the core game and the expansion. It features a few bigger additions (7 new hive mats, 15 unique frames, and 15 new seed cards), along with a greater variety of tiles and tokens, plus a few updated components.
Everything slid right into the original insert, no baggies or foam needed, which honestly surprised me. The new variety it adds to the base game is exactly what our group wanted after a dozen plays.
The appendix alone is worth it—having every rule for the core game and this expansion in one place means we stopped flipping between booklets mid-game. The new pieces also fit perfectly in the original box, which my shelves appreciate more than I expected.
The new modules slot right into the original box without any bulging, which is a huge relief for my shelf. Took our group a few games to get used to the added worker options, but the variety it brings keeps every session feeling fresh.
