These rebalanced civilization mats finally make some of the weaker factions actually worth playing. You can tell they went through thousands of player data points, because the tweaks feel targeted rather than random. My group's been using them for a month and nobody wants to go back.
The revised civilizations feel like they finally play the way the original design intended, and the adjusted track bonuses have genuinely tightened up my games with friends. I've already run three full playthroughs since it arrived and the pacing improvements alone are worth the pickup.
The balance changes are exactly what this game needed—my usual civs no longer feel unstoppable early, and the weaker ones finally have a real path to compete. I've played three games since swapping it in and every single one came down to the final era, which never happened with the base factions.
